Through Faith & Truth Media, the Cairn University School of Divinity is publishing its first-ever Advent devotional. God Rest Ye Merry is a 26-day devotional designed to bring fresh attention to the gospel of Jesus Christ as it is revealed through the Old and New Testaments.
The devotional’s title is drawn from the Introduction, where Dr. Keith Plummer, dean of the School of Divinity, reflects on the classic Christmas carol “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen” and what makes Christmas truly “merry.” Each day provides a Scripture reading, a short devotional, and a question for further reflection or discussion. All devotionals are written by faculty members of the Cairn University School of Divinity.
Rather than ending on Christmas Day, this devotional includes 26 readings. This is reflective of the reality that Jesus’ incarnation is the beginning of his redemptive work, not the final chapter. The 26th day is included as a reminder that Christ’s work continues and serves as an invitation to continue in devotion beyond the Christmas season.
